After working for a number of years as a Commercial Insurance Underwriter and then as an Underwriting Analyst Neil moved from the underwriting function of a large insurance company to its risk management department. There he was responsible for undertaking property protection surveys of large commercial premises including specialist surveys in respect of sprinkler systems code compliance. Projects regularly included the use of both British and US (NFPA) design codes for sprinklers and other fire suppression systems

Neils involvement in these projects involved substantial reference to various design codes for a wide range of fire detection and fire suppression systems. Audits of the passive fire protection design of premises against the Loss Prevention Council (LPC) Design guide for the fire protection of buildings was a regular feature of his work. Neil worked regularly as part of a team charged with delivering quantifiable improvements in property protection and operational continuity.

More recently Neil was employed by a regional based fire consultancy as Fire Risk Assessment Manager where he was responsible for undertaking fire risk assessments of a wide range of properties and for developing fire safety management programmes for retail businesses. In this role he undertook risk assessments of large and complex retail developments often involving mixed use encompassing leisure and private residential space.

Since joining Exova Warringtonfire in August 2007, Neil has project managed varied and complex projects ranging from fire safety strategy development for airports to risk assessment and code compliance surveys of new power stations. He has also undertaken life safety risk assessments of a broad range of premises including residential care, healthcare, private residential, leisure use, retail, logistics, industrial and transport interchanges.
