FIRAS scheme for Fire Doors

Fire doors perform a vital function and an important aesthetic role in buildings of all types. They are required to reinstate fire protection separation and protect means of escape from fire and smoke. Their correct installation by specialists is vital to their performance.

Using a FIRAS certificated company ensures that installers, assessed by FIRAS for their competence, will be adequately supervised and will only use appropriate fire doors within their tested and approved scope.

FIRAS installers are required to maintain records of every contract undertaken and to inform FIRAS of all contracts so that random inspections of the installation work can be undertaken.

On completion the company will issue a certificate of conformity and apply a discrete label to the door with contact details.

Fire doors certificated under the CERTIFIRE product certification scheme are individually labelled and supplied with installation information. Having such products fitted by a FIRAS certificated installer provides confidence to all parties in the door's ability to maintain its designed performance.

The FIRAS scheme for fire resisting doors and doorsets was developed in conjunction with the British Woodworking Federation and the Door and hardware Federation.

Details of companies certificated under the scheme can be found in the Register.
